Design and analysis of a wheel rim introduction
In this project, we focused on the design and analysis of a wheel rim, a crucial component in vehicle dynamics. The significance of wheels and tires in the automotive industry is undeniable. While a vehicle can be towed without an engine, it is utterly immobile without wheels. The wheel, coupled with the tire, bears the vehicle’s load, provides a cushioning effect, and aids in steering control.

For this project, we utilized the CAD tool SolidWorks to create a wheel rim with pre-existing measurements. We then analyzed the rim using the CAE tool Ansys Workbench, specifically calculating the results for weight loading circumstances on five different members. By comparing the performance of both 5-spoke and 6-spoke designs using three different materials (al-2024, al-6061, Znal4), we may determine the optimal material and model.
